Late Summer 2008 at Talamh
Volunteers are always welcome at this time of year in the gardens, to harvest and process soft fruit and veggies, and to sow winter crops. August 25 - 31st is a Straw bale building techniques week, with donations to cover the expenses of an experienced tutor. Places are limited so please get in touch with Anna at Talamh. Early September will be the Plum harvest at Arthur's Craig Orchard in the Clyde valley. Volunteers are welcome to come along and help us harvest the fruit.

Thousands of trees have been planted by TLC, including many by local Coalburn school children. Each year we undertake invasive species control. Gardens TLC manages 25 fruit and nut trees and a large soft fruit garden with red and blackcurrants, gooseberries, raspberries and lots of rhubarb. We grow vegetables in two large gardens ("top" and "bottom" gardens), and four terraces. Best of all is our polytunnel where there is intensive production including sweetcorn, peas, beans, strawberries and lots more. Education We have had many open days, festivals, events and courses held at Talamh. Highlights include biodiesel, basketry and living willow workshops. Recent Green Future festivals have had local craft producers and groups displaying their information. Current Projects The current project is completion of a 4.5kW microhydro power scheme. During February a tree week tended to our growing trees, completed a hedgerow, and planted some test areas of fast growing willow that could be used in a future biomass heating project. Visiting Us We're always happy to meet new people at our events. Outwith these days please contact us first by email or phone. It may be possible for overnight visitors to stay with the Housing Co-op, please contact them directly. Visit the Talamh Housing Co-op website
